Domed Mountains
- Are the result of great amount of melted rock which is pushing it's way up under the earth.
- There is usually little to none folding or faulting.
- Example: Black Hills, South Dakota
Folded Mountains
- Are formed when two plates collide head on
- Edges also collide with one another
- Resembles an accoridan
- Examples: Himalays, Applachians, Alps, Andes, and Urals
Fault Block Mountains
- Formed when faults or cracks in the earth's crust force materials or blocks of rock up and push others down.
- There are no folds but fractures, usually looks like blocks or that they are stacked
- Examples: Sierra Nevada, East African Basin
Volcanic Mountains
- Formed when molten rock erupts and piles upon the surface
- This can occur on land or in the ocean
- Examples: Cascade Range, Mid-Ocean Ridges, Hawaii
- These are flat topped rocks that have been lifted high above the crust by converging continental plates
- "High levels" of flat land
- Examples: Colorado Plateau and the Tibetan Plateau
